Special Conditions in the Area
There is A LOT of wildlife in the area, including: deer, elk, fox, turkey, rabbits, etc. that just love to run across the road when you are driving/riding by…especially at night…so PLEASE BE CAREFUL.
Also, at approximately mile 35, there is a small marker on the left side of the road commemorating the spot where Dr. Bob Breedlove died during the 2005 race. While most of you won't be able to stop, please pay your respects in whatever way you see fit as you go by the spot. You will know you are approaching it when you see the New Elk Mine silos on your right. Then, the marker is just from the first red house you will see on your right.
